This page describes how the Matchday Almanac handles information about the people who read it. It is short because the site does very little.
What this site does not do
- It does not ask for your name, email address, or any other personal detail. There is no account system, no newsletter, no subscription and no contact form.
- It does not sell anything and does not process payments.
- It does not run advertising, and it carries no advertising or affiliate tracking scripts.
- It does not build a profile of you, and it does not share information about you with anyone, because it does not hold any.
Server logs
Like every website, this one is served by infrastructure that records basic technical information about requests: the page requested, the time, an approximate location derived from the network, and the browser's own self-description. This is ordinary operational logging, used in aggregate to understand which pages are read and to identify faults. It is not used to identify individuals and is not combined with anything else.
Cookies
This site does not set cookies for tracking, analytics, advertising or personalisation. Your browser may store technical values on its own account — that is browser behaviour, not something this site requests.
Links to other sites
Our guides cite external sources, including governing bodies, research publications and news organisations. Following one of those links takes you to a site with its own privacy practices, over which we have no control and for which we take no responsibility. It is worth reading their policies if you are concerned; some of them do a great deal more with your data than we do.
Embedded content
This site embeds no third-party content — no video players, no social media widgets, no comment systems, no live score widgets. Everything you load when you visit a page here is served from this site. That is a deliberate choice: embedded content is the most common route by which a site that collects nothing itself ends up exposing its readers to something that does.
Children
This site is a general-audience reference resource. It is not directed at children, does not knowingly collect information from anyone, and has no facility that would allow it to do so.
Why the site is built this way
The absence of tracking here is a consequence of the site's design rather than a policy bolted on top of it. These are static pages: text, stylesheets and images, served as files. There is no application layer that could recognise a returning visitor, no database in which anything about you could be stored, and no third-party script running in your browser on our behalf.
That design has a cost — we know far less about how the site is used than a typical publisher does — and it has a benefit, which is that the promises on this page are structural rather than procedural. A commitment not to misuse data you have collected depends on your conduct. A commitment that follows from never collecting it does not.
Your rights
Data-protection frameworks give people rights of access, correction and erasure over personal data held about them. Those rights are exercised against whoever holds the data. Because this site holds no personal data about its readers, there is nothing here for such a request to reach — which is stated not to deflect the question but because it is the honest answer to it.
Changes
If this position ever changes, this page changes with it. There is no version of this site that collects personal data while this page says otherwise.
